Hello, I have searched high and low without actually finding any type of answer as of yet. So here goes my question. As I was playing Batman Arkham Aylum today, pretty much generally what I do for a an hour or so every morning, The game starts getting a little glitchy and then all of a sudden mid game my system just shuts down. It restarts itself and I get a on screen post 'The file may be corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum' Now, I had no idea what that meant, So I googled it and attempted a restart while I was searching. The second restart was unsuccessful as my system warning started to beep in intervals, which I have never heard before. So I do a cold shut down from the front panel and let the system chill out for a few minutes.

When I go to restart the system, There is no post-beep, the TV says no-signal and my 4870 is showing the three LED's D1601-1603 with the D106 unlit. I have read on several places that this is mainly due to a PSU issue and to just replace it and everything should be fine. However my confusion is coming from the initial error onscreen post of the checksum. Which means I have bad ram right? I have tried doing a BIO reset by removing the battery and trying the jumpers. I have tried running with only one Dimm of ram, I switched between each different one to see if a select one was an issue. I have switched out my graphics card for an older one.

Nothing seems to work. The question I have now is, Is it the motherboard the GPU or is it the PSU. I dont know anyway of testing each unit to see if they have fried or not. This is what is in my Rig Mobo - Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 CPU - AMD 64 X2 dual core 5200+ GPU - Asus EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5 Ram - CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400 PSU - OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandybridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom I hope I have given enough info, Thanks in advance for your time. PPTL011 Hi The graphics card is quite a power hog so there is always the possibility that your PSU had a weak component and gave out. If you have access to DMM(digital multimeter) you can check the power it outputs.

Should be +/-.05V from the stated output and can be easily mesured if you have empty molex connectors (the ones with 4pins and red, yellow and black wires going to them) The stated power is +12V and +5V and the black is the ground. I think the red is the 5V and the yellow 12V to ground (black). I have 750W OCZ and the first one lasted a month so the new PSU can fail.

The other thing is that some of the gards have inadequate cooling ATI chainged it quite a bit and if you happen to have one of the bad ones there is good change that it is cooked. Check the MB with some other card to make sure if the power is OK that it is not damaged. If known working card fails and the power is OK then you just lost you MB also and most likely in this case because of the graphics card. Check the ATI site or even Ebay for the picture of the card and compare the cooling. Your model should have fairly heavy one if it is the updated model.

If the MB works with the other card then your ATI 4870 is done. PPTL011 Hi The graphics card is quite a power hog so there is always the possibility that your PSU had a weak component and gave out. I actually just replaced the motherboard and everyghing was working fine for a while. Then while watching a movie the computer froze and thevaudio went heywire. I replace my gpu with an old x1980 and ran that for a week, before deciding to buy a new gpu i plugged my 4870 back in and it runs fine again. I will have to check the voltage on my psu, as i think that might be the main culprit. I have the same psu as you do, the ocz 750, ive had it for about a year now so i think it might be on its last leg.

Thanks for the reply will post the final results in a few days. Hi, I would do that ASAP because under voltage as well over could damage your components.

Have you checked the temperature of your running system, like rebooting and and gone to setup or with a utility program. That will also tell you voltage somewhat although I wouldn't fully trust those numbers for the voltage. Also, just for an idea to think about. I have now installed 'Windows8 alpha' for three of our family computers and we all love it.

My son old XP based boot time went from 6min to less than a minute (64bit) and my daughter's Pavilion dv9000 about the same from Vista (32bit). Speed changed quite nicely for all.

I have i7 860 based system with 4Gb ram. 8 has some minuses like having to reinstall everything, but then I have some old around 2000 programs that I can't install, but Win8 runs them straight without installation if the old installation is saved for another partition as all mine have. If interested I can give more details.
