One possible approach is to embed things like cameras and speakers into the screen itself. Apple does have patents for this type of thing, and is exploring different approaches, but it’s no easy task. Some Android brands have come up with an interesting – and immediately practical – way to lose the notch. We’ve seen a few variations on the theme of a popup selfie camera. Select the camera app, and a camera pops up from the top of the phone. The Vivo NEX is one example: But, of course, Apple has way more than a camera in that notch.

Oppo has come up with an interesting approach in its Find X phone, which – as Business Insider notes – has almost exactly the same array of front-facing tech as the latest iPhones. But instead of putting them in a notch, the entire array automatically slides up from behind the screen when needed. This means that Oppo is able to create a phone whose entire front face is screen, with just the tiniest sliver of bezel and earpiece (supplemented by a larger speaker in the slide-up portion).

It’s certainly an impressive achievement, and gives the phone an even sleeker look than the iPhone X or XS. But is it an approach Apple should take? The argument in favor would be that this is an immediate and dramatic step forward in terms of Apple’s vision of ‘a single slab of glass.’ The argument against is that it introduces a moving part – and one dependent on motors. That could be considered an inelegant solution, and is something else to go wrong (though Oppo claims its mechanism is rated for at least 300,000 operations).

Personally, I can’t see Apple going down this route to lose the notch. Indeed, the company has been working hard to remove moving parts. The mechanical Home button was replaced by a haptic one before being removed altogether, and it’s only a matter of time before other mechanical buttons are replaced by haptic versions. So reversing this trend would seem unlikely.

My guess is that Apple will wait until it can embed everything into the display – even if that takes years – and in the meantime aim to gradually shrink the notch. But what’s your view?

Should Apple borrow this approach to lose the notch? Does the all-screen look make it a desirable and futuristic approach? Or is it a clunky and potentially unreliable solution? Please take our poll, and share your thoughts in the comments. Check out 9to5Mac on YouTube for more Apple news.

Ostriv is a city-building game that puts you in a role of a governor of an 18th century town to challenge your creative skills and management abilities. Dive into the story mode and decide the fate of your country, or just build your cities for fun in sandbox mode. The game is currently in development; therefore some of the described features may be not fully implemented. Gameplay Ostriv aims to raise the bar of city-building experience by adding a huge amount of possibilities and removing annoying limitations. It allows for truly organic town layouts without the grid and angle restrictions on a three-dimensional landscape. The goal is to make player’s creations to become alive and believable communities where real-life problems would arise, thus making the late game a new challenge rather than a repetitive chore. You can watch the development of this masterpiece from afar on and or you can join by purchasing an alpha and help by providing your awesome (or, even better, awful) feedback!

The current alpha contains 28 basic buildings, 3 maps, advanced farming with crop rotation and ploughing, organic dirt roads modeling, dynamically changing seasons, basic trading by land and some other things you would expect from a city-building game. A lot of things are yet to be done. Check out the current roadmap to see what’s planned to be added before Ostriv becomes a finished game.

Buy Ostriv Alpha 1 to support the developer You get a downloadable DRM-free copy of the game and life-long subscription for all future updates, including a Steam key, when Ostriv will be available on Steam. (Powered by Humble Bundle) Make sure to enter email address correctly, you’ll get a download link on it! You can then download new versions with the same link. System requirements The current release targets Microsoft Windows OS (Windows 7 or newer), with Linux and Mac on the roadmap. You will need a multi-core processor and a powerful gaming video card that supports OpenGL 4.3+ to play Ostriv. GTX 770 or better is recommended.

Integrated Intel video cards are not currently fully supported. Some Radeon cards may experience reduced performance at this point.

Hope there will be many varieties about foods, ex: water base food production, fishery, shrimp, squid, etc. And many kind of crops and the production house such as grape and winery and would be great if we can upgrade the house or the production house or smthing like that. Also pls make a road that we can upgrade to somthing better, dirt to stone and etc. Random map generator would be nice as well. When night time comes you should make it more easy to see the scenery of night time, would be awesome. And i really can’t wait to play ostriv.

Keep up the great work and hope it will be finished sooner than the deadline. Thanks and cheers bro 🙂. I really hope you succesfully finish this project. I was reading the description and it sounds very interesting.

I used to play banished and I always thought that it was a totaly simple game with a lack of factors, therefore it becomes a little bit boring after not too much hours (dispite this I enjoyed it). Normally consequences were the dead of citizens, but in the description of the game you talk about new factors and consequences (like motivations, needs, skills, violence and crimes), plus the new kinds of transport (like horses) and other new things. That is what makes a game an interesting game. It would be great if the game includes information about the efficiency of a worker (for example) when he/she is working in a job that not match with his/her skills or motivations; or if the game has information about how faster could go citizens in an improved road Banished hasn’t included that information, so you didn’t know the real effect of your decisions. And why not, if the game includes ornamentation and day/night option, it would be a masterpiece. Anyway, good luck and I wish you the best! Just seen it on youtubelooks like something worth a try.

Im fed up with being disappointed by boring city builders that promise all and offer nothing. I downloaded Saelig and played about 14 hours of unadulterated poop. I hope you put plenty of depth into your title and keep it interesting and up date regularly.

I’ll pay good money to be entertained but drop it like a rock if it wastes my time. The environment is important to me and I like to see trees and plants, water too, with life and movement. Put the effort in and you will keep me happy. Actually the villagers have iron stored and he should be using it.

I’ve reached building a town hall and he still has plenty of nails. I found they started to run short not long after building enough homes for the villagers.

I only had one working in the Smithy, all I did was click on the plus sign and someone was assigned to the job and he started making nails straight away. I can’t think of any reason why he isn’t doing his job. I don’t think he needs anything more than the iron. Check the Smithy and make sure there isn’t a reason why he’s not making them. Further down the track I’m sure you’ll have to trade for iron to make tools etc. But nails should be covered.

I don’t suppose you’ve got him to make something else other than nails, if you have I’d say you’re stocks have run out. Hi Yevheniy, I just want to say this game is looking great, I’ve bought it and played about 6 hours now and for me everything is going well. The level of detail is awesome, For me it’s the little things, like the grass getting worn down when the people constantly walk over an area, that make it for me. Just a few questions, I’ve noticed my money goes down all the time and never seems to rise at all is there something I’m missing I have around 25 houses, 2 markets selling food and a trading post. Is there another way of earning money?

Is there any plans to have the forestry plant more trees? How does the updating of the game work? Please keep up the great work, I’m loving it.

Hi fellow Ostrivers, has anyone had the problem of running out of population? My villagers all up and vanished, I thought they were all sitting around their fireplaces keeping warm in winter until I clicked on their houses and found out they’d all cleared off due to lack of food. They didn’t even tell me they were going. I’d built them all their own houses, built a timber yard, smithy, hatcher, fishing wharf, boatbuilder, carpenter and a farm was half built. No opportunity to make any food before they left. It bugs me mainly because I’d built a reasonable village with everything close. I even had children running about.

All that time down the drain. Now I’m trying to figure out how I could have done any better so I don’t do the same next time. Or maybe just perhaps someone knows how to entice people back to my village where there are plenty of houses and facilities sitting idle. Is there such a fix or do I trash the lot and start again?

Any help would be appreciated. One thing’s for sure, the game’s going to be a winner when it’s finished, actually it’s darned good as it is. The graphics are excellent and it gives me a feeling of purpose. Progress is easily seen and it’s done so well, the buildings don’t just pop up out of nowhere. The little touches like children running from house to house, just as I did when I was small. I love it and hopefully I’ll have it mastered by the time the next upgrade arrives.

Hi Yevgeniy, Your game is really awesome. And I am proud that a developer living in my city is an author of this marvel. I will surely buy it right after you release it on Steam in whatever state the game is at that point. It is very promissing and I am really glad many excellent indie games like this one and for example Mashinky developed by a single person have a chance to see the light lately.

Keep up the good work and looking forward for a Steam release! Btw saw the game in KatherineOfSky youtube. Just to let you know who spreads the good words 🙂. Just a note to say I’m really enjoying exploring your game and watching it grow. One thing you definitely need at some point is your version of what Civ calls their “Civilopedia”–an online overall reference to every building, commodity, function, job, etc. In the game so we can explore the intent and the result and how they interact.

I would also like to see either a “percentage complete” figure when clicking on a building under construction to get a better numerical estimate of progress, and a more intuitive way to weight the attention paid by the workers to any one building over another. So you haven’t bothered to watch them building houses when there’s nothing else to do? You must prefer the games where they simply pop up out of the ground. I don’t believe there’s anything retentive about taking pleasure in watching the amazing work the Developer spent many hours perfecting. Actually if there’s anything retentive it would have to be only concentrating on the business end of the game.

Unlike yourself I enjoy every aspect of the game, from the graphics to the end results and everything in between. By the way, I don’t examine every building in every detail, I don”t know where you got that from.

I’m simply aware of the stages the buildings go through from playing the game. I know that if the walls aren’t up then it’s possibly a lack of clay, same for the chimney and fireplace. If the roof isn’t on then it’s a good bet there’s a problem with the thatch. So let’s drop the Retentive BS, and substitute “Attentiveness” instead. Obviously our “styles” are different, but I’m sure my way would be far more enjoyable to the majority of players.

More so than simply seeing numbers and little else. I’m cheesed off today, not about playing the game, but finding someone is providing pirated copies.

I’ve informed Yevheniy, but haven’t heard back from him. It’s such a shame they’ve picked his game, I wouldn’t care about the multinationals having their billion dollar empires ransacked but a one man show going it alone is rather sick.

I almost wrote a nasty email to the site, but it’s not my place to complain. On a happier note I finally managed to get past the 2nd winter with all families intact and a farm well under way. The only problem I have now is where do I find the messenger from another town.

I completely missed the message telling me he’d arrived and finally spotted the warning that he only had 3 more days in town. I clicked on the trading hut, but he wasn’t there. Can anyone help me to find him please. I definitely wanted some cattle, I have the shed, feed and water all ready, but if he leaves before I do any trading I’m worried he may not return. I’m not game to reload until I know where he is.

I’ve asked Yevheniy if there’s any way we could edit the name list and enter out own names, I reckon it would cool to have yourself building and living in Ostriv. If it’s possible why not put all your family in as well. OK so I’m mad, I can take the heat. So far, I find only one feature of the game to be kind of superfluous and troublesome: The fact that you have to build both the shipyard and the fishing dock. Since the dock is no good without the boatyard, but the boatyard can’t build boats until the dock orders them, this makes for two “dead” builds before any real benefit can happen.

IF you were either to combine them in one structure OR allow the boat yard to start building boats in anticipation OF the dock, I think that would make more sense. Re “ordering” items? It would be good if the Carpentry had more items others could order at the start–just being able to build carts, while valuable, seems like a lot of work to build the carpentry for all by itself until the much-later plough comes into the game.

When you will optimise the game for AMD Raedon GPU? I bought your game in September by preorder. Still now, I could not play your game for amd gpu.

You already released 3 patches & 4th no patch coming soon. But, there is no patch for solving the problem about raedon cards. Why your game is specially for nvidia gpu? But gamers bought their graphics card at their own choice.

Amd graphics card is really superb. Even high graphic games are running smoothly at highest settings. Why you donot take this problem seriously?

I don’t suppose anyone has considered the cost factor of having every different combination of CPU and graphics card to debug Ostriv. How do you expect one man to have a dozen different configurations to work with. We know he’s on his own and doesn’t have a big company backing him or having access to some computer lab. He’s doing what he can when he can. In my opinion he’s doing very well to have the updates as often as he does.

If it’s so much of a problem, wait until it’s released as a full game, maybe it will be fixed by then. I’m afraid he doesn’t take much notice of the “I want and want it NOW” he has a day job to put food on the table and he works on Ostriv in his free time. Plus he’s human and needs time off with his family. Have a little consideration, nobody has ever written a program which manages to run on everything this early in the game. How about Microsoft, they will sell you a software package for many hundreds of dollars and it’s so bug ridden they spend years writing patches for it. Hell, I’ve even seen them writing patches to sort out the bugs the last patch caused. For a measly $20 he’s doing a damned good job, give him time and I’m sure he’ll find the cures.

I just hope that when he finished Ostriv he writes Ostriv 2. But let’s not push him too hard, OK?

I don’t disclose my sources to thieves, sorry. The number of times that rather pathetic excuse is used in an attempt to legitimise piracy. “I wanted to see what the game was like before buying it” BS. You wanted it for free, period. If you wanted to see what any game is like you go to YouTube, not some piracy site and then come here to make out you’re some hardened gamer by giving advice. And even commenting “don’t you think that the developer deserves to make money of the thing he make?” I think it’s best if you maggots leave this forum and don’t come back. Actually it’s the opposite, it’s giving the smaller writers the chance to hit the market.

The only drawback I see is the opportunity for the fly by night crowd to take advantage of the system. All they need is a base game with just enough to get it on Steam and they stand to make millions (Literally millions) and then drop the game and run. It’s already happened and no doubt it’ll happen again until some sort of control is put in place. It’s the same old well worn story. Where there’s money, there’s always someone to exploit it.

Twenty Dollars is a fair amount to pay for a full game which could be worth double or even triple that when it finally evolves into a full game. However I do think there should be some kind of estimated completion date given. So this method could well be game development’s chance of growing.

I feel your comment is somewhat negative, how else would we be seeing and playing this game? Wow, so much negativity mixed with a generous serve of jealousy by the sounds of it. There has been NO indication the Developer intends to leave us with a half finished game.

That comment is disgusting. I doubt he’s looking for “easy money”, he has a commodity which a number of people think is worthwhile owning. He’s been writing the game for the past three years, doesn’t he deserve the same as many other people writing games? I have no problem paying $20 even though I’m on a pension where every cent has to be accounted for.

I feel I’ve made a good investment, if I had any doubts then I wouldn’t have bothered. His game is at a stage where having people play it on all types of systems can show him where the bugs are, plus give him an idea of what the players would like to see in the game. So just because one game made it big time, everyone else has to do likewise? Rather a naive comment.

Many big games have financial backers or large businesses behind them. In this case it’s just one man with a dream and a bloody good game. Actually I doubt you even own the game, so why come here crying about someone making a name for himself. Go play your Stardew Valley, (I’ve never heard of it). And leave those of us who enjoy being part of something new, alone. Well said Torsten, things are bad when politics rears it’s ugly head. I’m very happy with Ostriv and the way Yevheniy is handling it.

When he finishes Ostriv I hope he makes a follow up, I’ll be there waiting, for sure. In my opinion it’s great to be part of Ostriv, to see it growing is something special, especially when there’s no money hungry vultures wanting money for every update as is happening with a number of other games. I’ve been a flight sim fan for many years and the latest one was released very early in it’s build. No sooner did it become popular, the company owning it decided to charge for the updates and addons. I’ve uninstalled it and don’t intend to install it again. I like the analogy of a trip to the movies, $20 and 2 hours later it’s over and done with.

$20 for Ostriv and at a rough guess I’ve already had 40 or 50 hours playing it and obviously many, many more to come. It’s relaxing, fun and keeps the old brain cells ticking and at my age I’ve heard that mental exercise may stop you getting Alzheimer’s. I hope they’re right 🙂. I’m also not the youngest spring chicken anymore, but playing since agesway before fast internet and online gaming was a thing, when the only way to get patches for games was game magazines 😉 I can’t stand that kind of people nowadays that want everything “naow” and for no costs and you can see that here on disqus too with people asking “when is the next patch coming?”. With Yevheniy putting so much details in the game, all by his own, I surel say that this small investment was worth it. And don’t even get me started about companies charging money for updates.I just say Fallout 4 and the Creation Club. Yes those gimmee games I simply won’t touch.

A few years ago when mobile phone games were becoming popular there was a game I was reading which allowed you to buy extras to help get you to higher levels. One guy had paid over $700 and he still hadn’t finished it.

I used to like Angry Birds when it came out and even joined their club to get new levels, then suddenly they decided to much the same thing and even made levels impossible to get through unless you paid money. I haven’t played them since. Society today is very little else than gimmee your money. I’m a long time buyer of Chinese goods and I’ve been keeping a close watch on prices. Since January I’ve noticed prices skyrocketing for product which is popular in Western countries.

I’m convinced these on-line retailers sit down every day and study Western retailers prices and fix their prices accordingly. It has nothing to do with the cost of manufacture today, it’s more whatever they think we’re stupid enough to pay. I blame the youngsters who’ve been pampered by their parents giving them everything they ask for. Schoolkids walking around with their own $1,200 iPhones. They have the attention span measured in minutes and have little idea of money. We’re losing the kids who had to make their own fun, it now has to come in prepackaged boxes.

Anyway, that’s enough of that, we certainly can’t change things now. It’s far easier to simply type it.

If you don’t own the game, go to the top of this page and scroll down until you see “buy Ostriv Alpha 1 to support the developer” You can use Paypal or your credit card. It’s perfectly legitimate, it runs through HumbleBundle. You’ll be sent the HumbleBundle address where you can go to download Ostriv. It will arrive as a Rar File, so unrar it and click on the Ostriv application to run the game. Don’t forget to save the address of this site or make it a favourite so you can return to download future updates.

If you already own the game and you receive an email telling you an update has been released, return to the same address and download the new updated game. UnRar it and copy all the the files and folders to your original game. A simple copy and paste will do the job, your saved games will still be left intact. You people amaze me, you download a game from a pirate site and then come here telling the developer what you want on a game which you stole from him. So at least we now know exactly what you mean about getting it for free, don’t we? I suggest you grow up and realise life isn’t about getting everything you want for free. Many of the “adults” here have paid for this game, I suggest you do likewise, or go away.

Freeloaders aren’t welcome here. And that goes for your friend terror100 and the others who downloaded this for free. You’re just full of insults, aren’t you? You spot me on a pirate website one time and assume I pirate every game I see?

I bought both Spintires, and have more than enough paid for games in my Steam library. As an adult, I pay what i think games are worth. And right now, any games I can’t afford, I pirate to playtest. If they are good, I pay what they’re worth. Ostriv, after testing it, I bought it.

So before you go and assume, take a minute to think. I grew up in a age where we played demos before spending $60+ on a new game. I have not changed my practice. If I don’t like the game, I don’t keep it or buy it. I only pirate games I am unsure of are worth the price tag they are offered for. I don’t what you’ve done yevheniy, but your new update is working wonders on my town. The people are now going to the farm, sowing or harvesting with no input from me.

It’s as if you’ve made a town employment office. I’m still having a few who complain about having no food when they have plenty of wealth and a few who simply refuse to work, but the remainder are making things much easier. I saved the last game where I went broke and ran out food and although I kept going back to it I couldn’t get things running again. Now with your new update I’ve been able to build almost a new mini town and keep the majority of townsfolk happy. I do have one question, how do I get back to the traders.

I click on the prompt at the top of the screen which tells me a trader is in town, but if I go to the trading post to find out what I can give him, I can’t find him again. I’ve tried the trading post, the granary and he’s nowhere to be seen. Perhaps someone could tell me and save me having to find it in the YouTube videos. Just for everyone’s information, the maggot who purchased this game and handed it on to a pirate site is present on this forum under the ID of terror100, he also goes by the name of Richard Nightcore. May I request his account be cancelled, he’s also handing on each update as it’s issued.

The only good thing I find is that some people downloading this for free are having all sorts of problems getting it to run. It really bugs me when someone is low enough to steal someone’s work and has the hide to use this forum. Download bigasoft audio converter for mac. Terror100 is openly bragging about “donating” Ostriv, as are the other I’ve confronted who have thanked him for giving them the game. Not surprisingly none of them have replied to my comments.

Honestly Allen, I’m seriously angry about brazen these people are to steal a guys work and then come here asking for help. I would have thought they would stay well away. Would you mind editing your post please Allen? Delete the name of the site where this prated game is. I’ve avoided mentioning it simply so it doesn’t point anyone else to where it’s available. It’s a flashing neon sign to some people with a lack of ethics and decency. I’d prefer not to explain how I found them on here.

Suffice to say there’s no argument regarding their complicity in this matter. I’ve made enough enquiries to confirm my findings and so far I’ve unearthed a definite 3 and sadly there are others, many others. I don’t wish to disclose my sources here, I’m not being nasty, I just don’t wish to get any innocent parties in trouble. As for Mr, Richard Nighcore. If there’s some way to send a private message Allen I did inform our friendly developer Yevheniy, and left it in his hands. I won’t repeat what he said, it’s not my place to do so.

I would like to see terror100 have his rights to future updates denied, as this would ensure they don’t immediately find their way to this site. At the moment thousands of pirate scum are enjoying the same rights as those who’ve paid for the game.

This tends to cheapen Ostriv in my opinion. But let’s not let it ruin an excellent game, I have a feeling these parasites won’t be posting here again and let’s hope nobody else comes here to get help when their ill gotten download doesn’t work, or they can’t figure something out. Just so everyone knows, I have figured out that a profile called terror100 (real name is Richard Nightcore) has bought this game as a gift and handed the key to a piracy website known as IGG-Games. This is illegal, and therefore we must track down this cold-hearted idiot.

My new friend Stu (met him today) has already posted a comment on this when I informed the public that this was happening. He has contacted Yevheniy about this, but he has not responded. Everybody thank Stu for me as he has spread the word to you multiple times. Richard Nightcore has in fact commented on this page, and when I responded to and confronted him, that’s when Stu found out.

It looks like Richard Nightcore has unfortunately somehow deleted his last comment we know of. Please respond with more news when figured out.

I know this is a lot to figure out, but please help us. Signing of For Now -Midnight.

Well, that’s a conundrum William. I found the new download made my sims organise their work schedules much better than before. I still had to fire those people in specific jobs such as the tannery and fishermen in the winter. Once the harvest period started I just sat back and watched most of the population pouring out of the granary and when the harvest was over they poured back in. It would have taken me some time to organise that, but now the game does it automatically.

When I fired the Fishermen, they all grabbed themselves a cart and loaded up timber and clay to build another 6 houses. I must say I’ve never seen so may people sowing or harvesting in previous games and when I had 8 out of 10 fields to work I thought I’d never get the work done before winter set in, but I did, every field was harvested and cleared in good time, which is more than I can say for prior to the update. I’ve now built a new farm and I’m handing over half of the fields to it just to see if the workforce manages to split between the two farms. No if only I can build up my cash to get some cattle, I’ll be even happier 🙂. So in fact you’re guessing it won’t work, you haven’t purchased the game and installed it so what makes you think it won’t work? Different games run in different ways.

Unplayable

Some utilize the CPU more than the GPU and vice versa. It’s no good having the fastest Graphics card available if your CPU needs to work overtime and it’s no good having a very fast CPU is the graphics card is straining under the load. I’m not aware of which way Ostriv uses either (I’m guessing it’s mostly CPU), so I can’t advise you.

I assume you’ve made sure you have the latest drivers for you PC and graphics card, believe me having them up to date can make a huge difference. But as you’ve not given those specs, again it’s hard to give any advice. Let’s just say, if it’s pre-Vista, you’ll have problems and some of the later PCs and laptops which were made to a low price, will probably give you problems as well. Obviously if you’re convinced it won’t work then it’s silly to try.

How fast is your CPU, how much RAM, what type graphics card are you using and which OS do yuou have installed. Knowing that will give me some idea of it’s capabilities. The only real way to test Ostriv is to buy it and try it, the same way players have been doing it for many years. What games do you have installed at the moment and how do they run? If you wait until Ostriv is available from Steam, buy it and if it doesn’t work Steam allows you to sell it. When you buy it or most other software packages, it’s only licensed for one computer.

You can’t have it installed on two or more PCs or laptops. You may as well delete it Conrad, I haven’t see the Dev post here yet. I’m not even sure he knows this page exists. There seem to be a few people who say they can’t get an answer.

We heard a rumour he was way behind with answering buyers, but not hearing from him at all is strange. He didn’t even post news about the last update a user did that. I do know he’s not perturbed about people pirating his software, we had a number of them coming here for assistance, but after we found out who they were they magically vanished. If you read further up you’ll find his email address, perhaps if you tell him about your problem you may have more luck than posting it here.

As for the crash, it’s either you’re running the wrong resolution for your graphics card, it’s an early driver for it and should be updated or you don’t have the necessary OpenGL loaded. It’s mentioned further down this page. It’s usually a system problem more so than the fame’s. I have a relatively new computer with the latest Win 10 and it refused to run Ostriv due to two DLLs missing from the system drive.

Once I had them loaded it’s working OK. I still get an occasional crash, but strangely it tends to crash when I’m growing tired, so it’s not a worry. Even when it does crash whilst the game is under way, it loads back up very quickly and because of the constant game saving you rarely lose anything important.

Is anyone experiencing a lot of crashes with the new patch? I will play maybe 15 minutes and sometimes an hour or so and then it will crash. I think it might have to do something with the farm as that’s when I seem to experience more often. Also, I don’t see what’s stored in the farm like I did in Patch #3.

Plus, I think something happened to when the villagers are collecting the food from the fields as I will have 6 fields of 15 yield each; and only four of them are growing and yet it will take all winter to collect the food and I can barely get any of the fields replanted in March. I really like the game, but something has caused the game to keep crashing.

I know it is still an early Alpha game, but I thought the third patch was much more stable than the new patch. Is anyone else experiencing a lot of crashes with the new patch? I know it’s an early Alpha game, but didn’t know if I was one of the few out there and if I should try reinstalling the game. It seems to occur more often than not when I am trying to work with the farm.

I also noticed with the new patch that the crops stored in the farm are no longer listed in the building screen. I’ve noticed it takes a considerable amount of time for the villagers to collect the harvested crops. For example, I built 6 fields with a max output of 15 each. I had three of them growing wheat and three growing potatoes and after harvesting was finished only the workers were collecting the crops. By the time the middle of February came around I still had two whole fields needing to be collected. I don’t know if something changed with the farm’s coding in this new patch, but something happened.

Has anyone heard from Yevheniy ot have any news about Ostriv? It’s been a while since Update 4 and I’m hoping the stress of trying to handle things himself may have been too much for him. I’m not sure if he posts elsewhere, but isn’t this the official Ostriv page? I really love the game, but I’ve lost track of how often I’ve reached as far as I possibly can and started again, hoping to get better at organising everything.

Now I know more I keep going until that inevitable crash happens or things begin to go pear shaped. I was going to buy Guild 3 but decided not to, I’d only spend my time comparing the two and although it has good reviews I can’t imagine it’s as good as Ostriv. So are we still active or has everyone left town, sorry, village. No you only need the latest patch. I always start with 2 house bases as soon as the first base is built and they start the 2nd then I lay the plans for the 3rd and so on they all get done by November at the latest. Make sure you have Forestry built first and manned I sometimes put 4 workers in the forest.

And then the Thatcher I put 2 in there until there is 20 thatch, 20 + the starting thatch is enough for all the houses. I found if you lay all the foundations at once for the houses they don’t get completed.

Don’t give up it’s a great game. Just on top of the “forum” you have the option to sort by newest, I guess you are on a mobile platform, I have experienced the same thing. If you go to the very top of the website you can go to the blog for all new posted by the dev, either “Blog” or “Menu - Blog”. And there you can see that the alpha 1 patch 4 is dated 11th Nov. I’m pretty sur that if you go back to the youtube videos you saw you will see that either there were poster after nov 11th or they don’t talk about alpha 1 updt 4.

And no i’m not a mod, i’m just a fan of this game you sometime try to ease the mind of the impatien ones 😉. Let me answer some of the questions here. 1- there is no installation, you download and extract the folder on your desktop and run ostriv.exe 2- as the development progress, things get deeper and takes more time to be released as a patch. So I’m expecting a new patch very soon.

Optimizations take a long time. 3- in order to download the latest patch, go to humblebundle and login to your account, and find your purchase history where you should have claimed ostriv game. There you will see the download link for the latest patch. So basically every update will be downloaded from humblebundle until the game is released on Steam. You guys also should check Reddit page for extra news and information.

A little slow on the updates and progress of the game. Perhaps doing weekly updates on the progress of the game, that way it can help keep your customers engaged.

I know Factorio, another indie game does these Friday Facts, where every Friday for the last 2 years they give a recap of what they have done for the week. Which helps update its customers on the progress of the game. Which is great, it shows that they are actively involved with the development of the game. Maybe you should look at doing that At this stage, lm starting to regret buying the game.

Maybe I should of waited a little longer with the development before buying? Maybe the game has reached its peak? Just bought the game friday. Played it all weekend. Girlfriend wasnt pleased. Just looked through the roadmap. Two things i would recommend are more building information.

They should tell you what they do and how they connect to other chains. For example the small market buildings i found hard to workout at first. Also wildlife would be good. Perhaps some hunting mechanics. Either lodges or hunting parties. More hunting could reduce visible and huntable wildlife. This would fit in well with dogs.

Loving it so far. I’ve now fully tested the eggs in 2 maps and after the initial 20 eggs are sold at the stall they don’t get any more from the grainery or chicken coop. Left with 1 egg.

I killed off all my chickens and the eggs left (515) in the coop and 414 in the grainery with 1 in the market stall are all still there after many months of game time. You might want to look closer at the count you have.

Unless you get reserved eggs at the market stall they do not sell. This could be a bug he needs to fix along with above posts here of workers not servicing chickens and cows. Well once again gotta say this game is so addicting I love it!! I have restarted so many times and each time i restart i do something different, and learn different things each time.

I get crashes doing some things or when it auto saves every 2 mins (helps when i send crash reports to Yhevnie), mostly never crashes again when i restart until 10-20 saves after that. I find if you have as many houses as you have workers in a building you never run short of laborers, I also tweak my economy settings a bit to slow down houses running out of money and food but no worries they eventually move out and a new family moves in. I make fields as soon as possible and start with 4 fields of potatoes (rotated so 2 are always producing, and 2 are fallow) and fishing as soon as i am able (usually in year 3 sometimes 2 with the fishing). That’s after i built my 9 houses, smithy. I then pause to set up another farm and leave room for 4 fields and place a trading post close by and ready the fields for sunflowers, set a spot to place a sunflower oil building, and the housing to equal the workers to go in the buildings, so when they are all built i can trade off the oil to get funds for the economy.

I do the same for multiple cowsheds as well so when i have enough cash and traders arrive i am all set to get cows. Anyways just wanted to share how i start a new town and get started. Maybe this will help some new people get going. Hats off to the maker of this game, one of the best so far, EVER!!
